Countries of the World

Why this post? 

I bought a sticker ( + coloring) book of flags of the countries of the world  . So I thought it would be interesting to learn something about each country one per day. 

 The book started with Asia as a continent and Afghanistan as the first country 

Asia 

Afghanistan (Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan) 

Flag : It is tricolor flag of black ( signifying dark? history, red to honor bloodshed in protecting motherland and green color for prosperity , with some picture of wheat fields and inscriptions .... in the centre . After the Taliban take over in 2021, the flag has changed 

Is the country rich ? I read that it is one of the poorest countries of the world , with some small per capita appr. 400 USD , population of about 40 to 50 million people, size about one fifth of India. The country is divided into different regions by the HinduKush range and different tribes of people due to its mountainous rugged terrain.

 The difficulty in extracting the vast natural mineral wealth and making goods movements is difficult , so industrial progress has been slow. But I believe it has a rich cultural heritage of art , music, architecture etc. and wonderful warm simple people who deserve the best .

I have long ago read a book "The Kite Flyers" a beautiful touching book and also watched a movie based on the book,  both illustrated the culture and struggles of the war torn land  and its people. The Hindi movie "Kuda Gava" was based in Afghanistan, featuring Amitabh Bachchan and Sridevi - All I remember about that movie is the mountainous landscape and a haunting tune and the beautiful scenes , costumes and cast and its abnormal length bordering on boredom 

Well, I wish the people of Afghanistan flourish and progress .
